I’m OK with all of them but I have heard a lot of discussions because of these that is why I want to know your opinion. What do you think?

of the ones I’ve seen, the ones I have a problem with even being nominated:

Johnny Depp for Finding Neverland–love him as an actor, but that movie wasn’t that great, and his performance, though good, was still one of his least impressive.

Tom Hanks in Saving Private Ryan–again, a good, solid performance, but not outstanding.

Russell Crowe’s performance in Gladiator wasn’t so much because it was difficult as it showed raw star power. His win was more about the difference between that role and his much more impressive turn in The Insider. There are a lot of these performances that are more about star power and charisma than they are about any real stretch as an actor (in particular Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman)

Kevin Costner for Dances With Wolves–great, epic movie. great direction (though a bit long). but just okay acting.

Nearly all of them didn’t even deserve to be nominated by my definitions.
Awards are for Shakespeare-trained actors–with above-average voices, high intelligence and neutral accents. They’re the real professionals.
They’re the only ones who can adequately play officers, above sergeant rank,
successful professionals, and in the past and future in sci-fi or historical films.

Instead of rewarding professionals, people only good enough for folk-accent movies are constantly being allowed to play roles they scientifically can’t possible succeed in and even being handed awards for them.
Also, since actors get better with age, the way old wine does, actors over 45 most often act from within and younger actors just play themselves usually. So they are better.

From your list, for instance, in 1995, Sean Penn was miles above the other two; and in 1979 none of the three deserved to be nominated. With the ladies, the bias against professionalism is even clearer. Thank you for asking.

What is the story behind "The Road to El Dorado"?
I love the dreamworks/ppixar animated film "The Road to El Dorado". I was wondering if it is based off a true story. If so, what is the name of the story and where can I find it?

Thank you guys in advance,
Brandy

Well, it is true that some scholars believe Tenochtitlan was El Dorado, it was actually one of the many "legends" the natives of the Americas used to distract the Conquistadors and lead them farther away from their own village.

Remember how the evil sorcerer meets his end? He leads Cortes to the old, destroyed entrance. Cortes believes he has lied and enslaves him.

In reality, a sacrificial villager would claim to have been to El Dorado before, and leads the armies of Spain far away from their home village. They played the Conquistadors for fools as long as they could before the spanish realized their guide’s true intentions and killed them.

They also told stories of bird men and a tribe with ears that hang down to their feet. And the spanish believed these tales as well.

If you want more info on the origin of the many different events in the story and how they relate to central american culture, email me at anicetusursus@yahoo.com

no it is not based on a true story. however THERE REALLY IS A PLACE "EL DORADO!" !!!! i learned about it in 8th grade and i even watched the film bc of history.. the story is based on aztecs and how they lived… el dorado is in mexico and it was called the city of gold. however just like how columbus took over america, this spain dude conquered the place… i forget what place it is now… but if u want watch apocalypto…wait!
ok so i just checked my old 8th grade notebook and i found this:

- the person who conquered "el dorado" - hernando cortez
- el dorado is ACTUALLY tenochtitlan
- montezuma II(the 2nd) was the king of tenochtitlan aka el dorado!!!!!

take note that in el dorado the place seems wonderful but the aztecs(the ppl living in el dorado) did conquer the neighboring towns…see the trailer/movie of apocalypto!! its very ghoury but its from a view/perspective of the neighboring towns and how the aztecs ruined their lives!!!(you can find it on youtube…!
( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-d4woinx 9Y )
enjoy!

It’s the story of Coronado, you can find plenty of information on him online with google searches. Search with his name, or under ‘conquistadore in America’.

As for the movie itself, no, there is no ‘true’ story about the two characters, the horse, or the people they met behind the waterfall, it was all extrapolation to do a story based only vaguely on the fact the natives had gold jewelry who lived in the mountainous areas.

What's your opinion on the new Futurama flick ^_^?
I liked it, but I kinda felt like it wasn’t the best =[ I think Bender's Big Score was the best of the three ^_^
I'm talking about Bender's game ^_^ I thought it was so-so. You should see the first one =]

Pity it’s not as good as it could be, but like you said, Futurama’s worst is still better than almost everything else out there… often including even The Simpsons.

i have to say the all-round creepiness of the feature won me over. Less on the gags but more on the story was interesting. I prefer a better balance of both, but it was curious to see nonetheless, it was funny as usual.

u r right .good luck.
i love god as i love myself. | Nov 05, 2008

Are you talking about the Beast with a (I forget the #) backs?

That one was really strange. I didn’t get to watch Bender’s big score. I know, sad.

What was the other one? I thought there were four too.
Shmoo | Nov 05, 2008

I love all things Futurama, but I have not seen that one yet.
Thynight | Nov 05, 2008

The Beast With A Billion Backs is my favorite of the three. Bender’s Big Score is my second favorite. Bender’s Game was alright but lacking in the witty humor that made the other two movies so good.
Team InuYasha | Nov 05, 2008

Ilove the way you think!!
MissCherry 26 | Nov 05, 2008

couldn’t agree more. Besides the same animator and creator of Shows like futurama have already did an episode in all their other shows like that in the past.
